Prime Minister Mark Carney has pledged $100 million in new Canadian aid for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The package includes $80 million for humanitarian assistance and an additional $20 million for development and security initiatives. Carney also stated that Canada is prepared to extend its existing RCMP mission to train Palestinian police officers in the West Bank to include the Gaza Strip, provided conditions allow. The announcement was made on Tuesday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, as Canada continues to advocate for a two-state solution.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that Tehran welcomes any negotiations that lead to security and lasting peace.
US President Donald Trump has told advisors that he wants to arrange a meeting with Iranian officials in New York during the UN General Assembly.
US President Donald Trump stated that he is "likely open" to a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. Although no official meeting has been confirmed, the possibility of direct talks between the two leaders arises amid ongoing tensions between the US and Iran, regional conflicts, and diplomatic efforts to establish dialogue.
Iranian Supreme Leader adviser Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr said Iran would not reopen the Strait of Hormuz until U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are removed from power. The statement was reported by Iranian state broadcaster IRNA and comes as shipping through the strategic waterway remains heavily disrupted amid the ongoing conflict.
Unless the opposing sides show goodwill and put forward a plan of human decency. For the past few years, I've worked in refugee shelters of all levels with Persians from Iran, Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. More than half of my colleagues were former refugees. To resolve conflicts, great action is needed. The greatest of these would probably be to agree to conditions and credibly end the war as quickly as possible. If that fails, those in positions of power should resign. Of course, reparations payments are also up for discussion.
